Your Role as a C.A.R. Director

As a C.A.R. Director, you serve as a vital conduit between the California Association of REALTORS® and your local association, SDAR. You are entrusted with:

  • Voting on state-level real estate policies

  • Representing the interests of San Diego REALTORS®

  • Attending all required business meetings and caucuses

  • Keeping informed on legislation, housing policy, and real estate trends

  • Reporting back to SDAR on important C.A.R. actions


Being an effective Director means showing up—prepared, informed, and ready to advocate on behalf of your fellow REALTORS®.

Meeting Calendar & Key Dates

C.A.R. Directors are expected to attend three major business meetings annually, plus special events like Legislative Day.

Here’s what to look forward to:
  • C.A.R. Business Meetings:
    Rotating locations throughout California, including Los Angeles, Sacramento, and Indian Wells.

  • Legislative Day:
    An important advocacy day in Sacramento—meet with state legislators and promote REALTOR® priorities.

  • SDAR Caucus Calls:
    Hosted before each C.A.R. meeting, these calls ensure our Directors are aligned, prepared, and briefed

Preparation Materials

To be an informed Director, it is essential to review meeting packets and issues in advance. We recommend:

  • Reviewing C.A.R. agendas and committee reports

  • Using the C.A.R. mobile app for schedules and materials on the go

  • Studying SDAR's positions on key issues

  • Participating in pre-meeting issue briefings and caucus calls

  • Pro Tip: Read “Talking Points” provided before each session—they’ll prep you for committee discussions and votes.


Leadership Communication & Etiquette

Professionalism matters at the state level.

As a C.A.R. Director:

  • Speak with clarity and purpose in meetings

  • Wear business or business-casual attire unless otherwise specified

  • Maintain confidentiality on sensitive votes or negotiations

  • Ask questions! You're encouraged to learn and grow as a leader

SDAR Caucus Overview

The SDAR Caucus is a pre-meeting for all our C.A.R. Directors. It’s where we:

  • Align on key issues and voting stances

  • Review talking points

  • Get updates from SDAR Government Affairs

  • Ensure we speak with a united voice

Only when C.A.R. offers a hybrid option. In-person participation is strongly preferred.
