The City of San Diego’s Residential Tenant Protection Ordinance officially went into effect on June 24, giving more assistance to renters by placing additional burdens on housing providers. While the measure was aimed at combating homelessness and the high cost of housing, the new restrictions on housing providers could further depress supply in the rental housing market.
SDAR joined the California Apartment Association and other local housing providers in opposition to the measure due to the infringement of private property rights and the detriment to San Diego’s already low housing supply.
