Mortgage Demand from Homebuyers Up 25% from a Year Ago

Mortgage applications to purchase a home rose just 3% last week but were 25% higher from a year ago. Mortgage demand has surged in the latter part of September — even with the highest interest rates in several weeks.

The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage and 15-year fixed-rate mortgage increased to their highest levels since late August. Total mortgage application volume increased 6.8% in the past week, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association’s seasonally adjusted index.  Read more.
